Corbett National Park
Corbett National Park was established in 1936. It is the first and possibly the finest national park in India. It is named on great hunter and conservationist, Jim Corbett. The park spreads over some 920.9 square km at an altitude of 600 to 1100 meters about the foothills of the western Himalays in the districts of Nainital and Pauri Garhwal.
Dehradun
Dehradun is the capital of Uttrakhand. This picturesque hill station is known for his natural beauty and many famous institutions located here. The Forest Research Institute, Dehradun has a fascinating campus with a museum and with many rare plants in its spacious grounds. There are lots of historic schools and other public buildings that are worth the visit.
Haridwar
Haridwar, one of the seven holy cities of Hinduism, situated at the base of the Siwalik Hills. At this great pilgrim centre, the Ganges passes through its last gorge and begins a 2,000 km journey across the plains, Haridwar’s importance is reflected in the number of temples and bathing ghats- the holiest is Hari-Ki-Pairi, Here Vishnu, (the third in the Hindu trinity of Gods), is believed to have left his footprint. The name of Haridwar “Door of Vishnu (Hari)’ dates from about 1400.
Mussoorie
Mussoorie is known as "Queen of the Hills", because of its mall, scenic bungalows and cottages, institutions, nature walks and water falls. This beautiful hill station is a popular getaway for people looking for break from the summer heat of the plains. In 1820, Captain Young of the British army was influenced by the beauty of this place and made it his residence. This hill station gradually developed as a centre of education, business, tourism and beauty.
Nainital
This popular hill station has scenic vistas, beautiful trails for walkers, boating on the Lake and hospitable people. It is said that G. W. Traill, Commissioner of Kumaon and Garhwal, the first European to set eyes on it in 1823, kept the discovery of this scenic spot strictly to himself because he felt that crowds would violate the sanctity of the place.
Rishikesh
Rishikesh is a great pilgrimage center as it stands on a junction of the Ganges and Chandraphaga rivers and is the starting point for pilgrimages to other holy places. Perhaps the most intriguing sights are its ghats (sacred river steps) and temples. There are also several ashrams (Places of Spiritual retreat), and you are likely to see many Sadhus (holy men) in the crowded streets.
Valley of Flowers
The valley of flowers is spread in 87.50 square km with endemic alpine flowers. It is situated on the distance of 16 km from Govindghat. The valley of flowers is the home of over 500 species of wild flowers. It is declared as the National Park of India in the year 1982 and it is now a world heritage site.
